Hitaru

Hitaru puts Japanese where you already look. Add the widget to your Lock Screen, Home Screen, or StandBy and it shows one thing at a time — a kanji, a kana character, or a travel phrase — with its reading, its romaji, and what it means. It changes through the day on a schedule you set: every 15 or 30 minutes, a new item. There is nothing to do. No streak to keep, no notification, no session to start. You just pass the same words often enough, in the ordinary moments of checking the time, that they start to stick. When one catches your eye, tap it: the app opens that item with example sentences and a fuller breakdown.
