Last Gap

You get one number at a time. Place it in one of twenty slots, so that the finished row reads low to high. You never see what is coming. Put 500 in the middle and the next number is 501, and it has to fit the sliver you just left yourself. The round ends the moment the number in your hand fits nowhere. You never lose to a bad number — you lose to the last gap you made. WERE YOU GOOD, OR WERE YOU LUCKY? After every round the game works out how well you actually played, not just how far you got. Each move splits in two: what the numbers did to your position, and what your own choices cost against the best move available. You can be praised for a round that ended on 4, and found out on a lucky one that ended on 14. It is also how you improve.
