OroSense

OroSense is a research application developed by the Sanchez Research Lab at the University of Illinois Chicago. It uses the iPhone camera and depth-sensing technology to collect standardized measurements of tongue and mouth movements. During an assessment, authorized research personnel guide participants through a series of movements, including tongue protrusion, tongue lateralization, tongue-tip elevation, forward-and-return movement, and maximum mouth opening. OroSense records cropped camera images, depth information, task measurements, task timing, and necessary device information. Assessment data is securely uploaded to the research team’s Firebase storage and is used only for approved research purposes.
