Our goal is to help people eat well, whether you are in a state of suboptimal health and want to have a healthier diet or during difficult times, such as postpartum mothers, people recovering from surgery or illness, and those following a fitness regime. The idea for Shangmeals springs from the more than 1000 year history of Chinese people using food as medicine for health and wellness, especially during difficult times. Chinese medicine looks at foods and determines the character of every food. Certain characters are good for different organs, different seasons, and different illnesses or physiological conditions. Specifically, we began with foods commonly eaten in China by women during the postpartum period, foods that support the mother’s healing and help increase milk flow for the baby.
