Sideline Coach is for the volunteer coach who plans Tuesday's training on the back of an envelope, and wants something better. PLAN A SESSION AS STATIONS Break a session into stations, each with its own set-up, coaching points and time. Then run it from your phone at the side of the pitch — one station at a time, big enough to read with a ball in your other hand, and a timer so the groups rotate when they should. DRAW THE SHAPE YOU WANT Put players and cones on a full pitch or a coned grid, then draw what happens: runs, passes, dribbles and shots, each in its own colour. Build a move in phases and play it back, so you can show it instead of explaining it twice. KEEP A RECORD OF THE MATCH The result, what worked, what didn't.
