Sail up the Nile, the Tigris, the Indus, the Yellow River or the Amazon to reach inland cities; slip through a narrow strait to enter the Black Sea. The shortcuts are not marked. ■ Prices move with the world 36 trade goods plus 32 port specialities. Ports in the same region drift together, so reading one market tells you something about its neighbours.
